Minister of transport Dzifa Attivor has assured domestic flyers that cancellation of flights to the Kumasi airport during the harmattan season will be a thing of the past.
Its follows the commissioning of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the Kumasi airport.
The multifaceted equipment provides precision guidance to an aircraft approaching and landing on a runway.
The 800,000 Euro project was solely funded by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority’s internally generated funds.
Dzifa Attivor says the installation of the equipment is a clear manifestation of government’s commitment to transform the Kumasi airport and other regional airports in the country to meet international standards.
‘the installation of the ILS at the Kumasi Airport is a clear manifestation of the government and it’s allied aviation agencies’ commitment in collaborating, to transform the Kumasi airport and other regional airports in the country to meet international standards’.
Dzifa Attivor said the installation of the equipment will go a long way to improve significantly the operations of aircrafts to the Kumasi airport.
“I want to assure the general public that with this instrument landing system in place, the agonizing moment of flight cancellations in the morning or during the harmattan seasons will be a thing of the past”, she added.
Director General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority Air Cdre Kwame Mamphey said his outfit will continue to implement programs and projects that will maintain the country’s air safety records.
He said the facility was built with funds generated internally.
