Ghanaian women have been  advised to rise beyond the limitations placed on them by society and reach their higher potential.

All the speakers at the Citi FM’s Just Women Forum told participants to resist the pressures, tradition and culture put on them and work hard to achieve their goals.

One of the speakers, Ellen Hagan of L’aine Service  asked young women to carefully choose the right husbands if they want to succeed both at work and in their marriages.

“You need to choose the right partner. You think it’s only the men that choose? We also choose and I say to the young ones, you first of all have to decide; do I even want to get married,” she stated.

According to her, young career women should not succumb to societal pressure to get married because it is a life-long decision which needs careful consideration.

“If you haven’t found the right person, don’t get married. It’s better not to be married than to be miserable,’ she stressed.

She also appealed to parents to raise their girl child to “think a bit differently about themselves; raising the men who are now becoming young adults to learn to do things in the home to be a support to their future spouses if they choose to get married.”

A variety of issues were discussed at the Just Women Forum which was attended by women of all ages.

Speakers at the forum which was aimed at empowering women included Estelle Akofio Sowah of Google Ghana, Ruka Sanusi, founder of Alldens Lane, Ellen Hagan of L’aine Service and Dzigbordi Dosoo of Allure Africa.

The women also went through speed mentoring with other successful women working in various fields.

Some patrons sharing their experience after the forum told Citi News, the time allocated for the forum should be extended the next time it is organized.

One participant said: “It was impressive, it was nice but the only problem I had was the time but in the nutshell, it was a nice programme and we hope that more of such programmes will be held not only in Accra.”
