The Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has asked the general public to disregard a video clip circulating on social media showing how sausages are produced from dirty, live pigs mixed with blood and faeces.
The FDA described the said video as mischievous and was deliberately doctored to misinform the public.
Speaking to Citi News, Principal Regulatory Officer of the FDA, Kofi Essel said “all the sausage manufacturing facilities that are registered with the Food and Drug Authority here in Ghana does not produce sausages like is being shown.’’
He said the video was a wrong attempt to describe the process of producing sausage.
According to him, they buy either imported and locally produced meat. “Which is taken through the necessary steps and operation, including the addition of appropriate ingredients…’’
“What is being shown is not true, it is inaccurate and it is mischievous,’’ he noted.
Mr. Essel also disputed claims, comments and suggestions that sausage is responsible for fibroid. “That is ridiculous, that is a fallacy,’’ he said.
He has, however, allayed the fears of sausage consumers saying all the sausage manufacturing facilities registered under the FDA in Ghana do not produce sausage under the conditions depicted in the video.
