The Ministry of Finance has expressed disappointment at the Ghana Revenue Authority, GRA for failing to meet its 2013 revenue target.
Out of a revenue target of GHC15, 609,052 the Ghana Revenue authority collected GHC 13, 161,019 giving a negative deviation of over GHC 2 million, that is 15 percent.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister of Finance,Mr. Seth Tekper at the 2014 Management Retreat in Takoradi said the failure was disappointing since the GRA had been achieving its yearly targets.
According to the Minister, the GRA should surmount whatever challenges it had to meet the 2014 target.
“The implication of the president’s address on domestic revenue generation must therefore not be lost on GRA. It is time to generate so much from domestic resources,” Mr. Seth Tekper said.
An urgent call was made on GRA to delve into its wealth of experience as revenue administrators and to think deep outside the box to develop new initiatives and measures to raise the needed revenue for 2014.
The address ended with an urgent call on the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to implement a development action plan. “In order to effectively monitor The action plan, I will demand an implementation and outcome report on a quarterly basis,” the statement stated.
