Financial Analyst, Sydney Casely-Hayford is challenging government to publish a list of all projects it has undertaken since 2009 with externally acquired funds.
This he said will serve as proof to Ghanaians that all borrowed funds since 2009 have been put to good use.
“If government says it has borrowed well and has used the money appropriately, I will like to suggest to cause to publish in the Daily Graphic or any other national newspaper a list of all the projects that this government since 2009, has initiated and spent money on and how much it has actually spent…” he said.
The President, John Mahama in an apparent response to critics served notice that his government will continue to borrow funds to undertake developmental projects despite criticisms from political opponents on government’s ‘excessive’ borrowing.
He denied the assertion that his government has not been prudent with borrowing.
Speaking on Citi FM’s The Big Issue, Mr. Casely-Hayford insisted that publishing the details will enable Ghanaians “understand everything that they are trying to do.”
He was however quick to add that projects to be listed should exclude “projects that were started and the funds were secured by a previous government.”
He added mentioned that funds still at the negotiating level should also be excluded from the list while debts which have been paid off should be added.
“If they want to be transparent and they want to show us good governance and they think that this is what people should know, could they please cause to be published in the newspapers, all projects that they have initiated and paid for since 2009,” he added.
The Financial Analyst cautioned that if government is unable to provide the list, “we will try and provide the list ourselves.”
