Four staff members of the Daffiama Senior High School in the Daffiama- Busie-Issah district of the Upper West region have been arrested by the Upper West regional Police command for allegedly stealing 17 laptops belonging to the school.
The four, whose names are withheld for security reasons include the headmaster, the store keeper, the ICT coordinator and a security man guarding the school.
The acting Upper West Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Edmond Nyamekye disclosed this to Citi News saying, the 17 computers were detected stolen during an audit exercise conducted by the school late last year.
“Somewhere in November last year, the then headmaster was due for retirement .As custom demands, an audit exercise was carried out before he could hand over the school to the incoming headmaster. It was during the audit it came out that the 17 laptops were stolen from the ICT lab” ASP Nyemikye explained.
He said preliminary investigations revealed the four persons were closely involved in the stealing of the 17 laptops and were arrested early this week.
ASP Nyemikye said the accused persons will be put before court immediately investigations are completed and “definitely, our investigations will end up at the court”.
Meanwhile, the Upper West Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, Mr. Iddrisu Mahama said the issue is yet to be brought to the notice of his outfit. He promised to immediately act on the matter and act according too laid down procedure.
Citi News can report that the suspects have been granted bail pending investigations.
