Fire has gutted some portions of the Takoradi Harbour.
According to the Director of the harbour, Capt. James Owusu-Koranteng, the fire was noticed by the Port security patrol team at around 4:25am Friday morning.
The fire is believed to have been caused by some heat from chemicals in containers at shed 4 of the port.
In an interview with Citi News Capt. Owusu Koranteng said the timely intervention by the Ghana National fire Service helped to control the blaze.
“The fire was reported at 4:25am, but as of 4:27, the Port Fire Service had arrived, by 4:30am the door to the affected area was broken and the National Fire Service arrived on time to quench the fire,’’ he indicated.
Capt. James Owusu Koranteng however, said investigations will soon be carried to ascertain the cause of the fire. He opined that, the fire might have been caused by heat generated by a chemical in shed 4.
The Takoradi Port is currently going through expansion works to facilitate commercial activities in the West African sub region and to aid oil and gas activities in Ghana.
