The Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has begun removing the fake Zentel dewormers off the market.
Zentel is an over-the-counter drug which is meant for the treatment of single or mixed intestinal parasites.
Last week, the FDA warned the public to be on the look-out when purchasing this brand of dewormer.
In an interview with Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Authority, James Lartey advised Ghanaians to report shops that are still keeping the fake Zentel dewormers.
“If you see the product in the shop, don’t buy it, if the people are still keeping it on the shelves, report to the nearest Police Station,” he said.
He also appealed owners of pharmacy shops to draw the FDA’s attention “if they have stock of the batch number that we have mentioned [390160] with manufacturing date of March 2011 and expiry date is March 2016” and urged them to remove “it from the shelves.”
