The Ministry of Education says it is ready to account for the GHS 85 million Cal Bank facility which was used to construct classroom blocks.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations of the Ministry, Paul Krampah, ”it is also not true that the projects for which the facility was secured have not been executed.”

Earlier reports in sections of the media had stated that the Education Ministry cannot account for the GHS 85 million facility and the school blocks cannot also be accounted for.

But the Ministry in a statement said it is ready to account for the money.

Below is the statement from the Ministry

The Ministry of Education wishes to correct a wrong impression in sections of the media about an GHS 85 million Cal Bank facility approved by Parliament in 2010 to construct 2 storey dormitories and 6 unit classroom blocks in Senior High Schools.

We wish to state for the records that we have not failed to account for the facility neither are we refusing to do so. It is important to emphasise that the GHS 85 million was not lodged with the Ministry of Education as being reported in sections of the media. It is also not true that the projects for which the facility was secured have not been executed.

This matter did come up in Parliament on the 18th of March, 2014 in a supplementary question, perhaps intended to ambush the Deputy Minister of Education, however, as Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated in his response; when given proper notice, we will furnish Parliament with the full records.

We wish to assure the good people of Ghana that the Ministry of Education is ready to fully account to Parliament when invited.
