An aide to NPP stalwart Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku says the former presidential aspirant is unperturbed by Nana Akufo Addo’s decision to contest for the flagbearer ticket in 2016.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, Ahmed Osman explained that the declaration by Nana Addo is normal and part of the democratic process.
He said his boss expects fairness in the run up to the election of a candidate for the party in the 2016 presidential elections. ”When the time comes we are also going to officially announce our intentions, lets see if those who[party officials] where there will also be at our function; we expect people to fair and objective.”
”I am not condemning anybody for being there, I am saying that very soon we are also going to announce our intention… We expect our executives to come when we also invite them to our declaration, because as executive members of our party we expect them to be independent and fair to everybody” he noted.
According to Osman, Dr Konadu Apraku is still interested in competing for the NPP’s presidential ticket. ”He [Dr. Apraku] is very much interested, we are preparing adequately, we are meeting the potential delegates and we are working; and I can assure you that in a week or two you will hear from us.”
Dr. Apraku directed Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign in 2012 but has been tipped to contest for the NPP’s president ticket.
Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to receive opposition from Dr. Apraku and other top members of the party for the NPP’s presidential slot for the 2016 elections.
This will be Nana Addo’s third attempt at the presidency as the NPP’s candidate. He told his supporters at his Nima residence on Thursday that he will contest to lead the party in the 2016 general elections.
