A group calling itself the Coalition for Young Liberals says it is “disgusted at the manner and way in which the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) continues to degenerate its corporate image since the acquisition of Merchant Bank.”
“The fundamental principle that underpins the establishment of the SSNIT was to administer pension schemes, but not to meddle in politics,” the group said.
A press statement signed by members of the group said “an institution such as SSNIT should have advised the government in areas that would have prevented the current economic predicament most Ghanaians found themselves and not witch hunt IMANI Ghana.”
“We are not in any position to remind them of their ‘job description’ as an entity under the Government; that oversees the welfare of Ghanaian pensioners. SSNIT must rise above the current politico-economic situation that had engulfed the country, and consider the consequences on their investment arm of business.”
The group further stated that it was in doubt that it was in doubt that “any position to remind them of their ‘job description’ as an entity under the Government; that oversees the welfare of Ghanaian pensioners. SSNIT must rise above the current politico-economic situation that had engulfed the country, and consider the consequences on their investment arm of business.”
In that regard, the group urged the Board of Trustees for SSNIT to act quickly and direct the policy of SSNIT under the current Management.
“The Management should focus and concentrate on their core business activities to avoid plunging right into political quagmire,” it said.
