The General Secretary of the governing National democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has responded to thievery accusations against the government by Dr. Josiah Aryeh saying, the accuser himself is a “thief.”
“For Josiah Aryeh to accuse anybody of stealing is the highest injustice this country has ever suffered because you were talking to a thief,” he proclaimed.
His response follows accusation leveled against the NDC government by a leading member of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Dr. Aryeh claiming that some faceless government officials are “gang of robbers” who are stealing from the people and leaving the country’s economy in disarray.
But in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, Mr. Nketia claimed that Dr. Aryeh stole party property when he was the General Secretary of the NDC adding that “if it is about integrity, Josiah Ayeh is an example of an intellectual who took bribes. He sells the fate of his party and everybody in this country knows that.”
He recalled that in 2004, when Dr. Aryeh was the General Secretary of the NDC, his leadership “was so lousy” and was compromised two weeks to 2004 elections by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, although the party investigated the matter, the committee’s report could not be published and implemented due to a rift between the party’s founder, ex-President Rawlings and the former Chairman of the party, Obed Asamoah “and that was how Josiah Aryeh escaped.”
Mr. Nketia also disclosed that when he took over the General Secretary position of the NDC, it was realized that two official vehicles, a Nissan Patrol and a brand new Mitsubishi Pickup were missing and later traced to his predecessor.
But when contacted, Dr. Aryeh requested for a trade off by which all his misdeeds will be cleared from the party’s files before returning the vehicle but his request was turned down ‘and he has kept those vehicles up till today.”
The NDC’s General Secretary cautioned that since “crime has no time limit; if Dr. Josiah Aryeh will come out today and write a letter to us that he is not interested in enjoying the amnesty that was granted. He should write to us and we will pursue the matter.”
Dr. Josiah Aryeh is currently a leading member of the NDP, a breakaway party from the NDC.
The NDP was founded by Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings; the wife of the founder of the NDC and former President, Jerry John Rawlings.
