A leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa has called for the creation of a position in governance for leader of the largest opposition party in Ghana.
The position, he explained will be held by the flagbearer of the largest opposition party in Parliament and it will help put the ruling government on its toes.
Speaking at 47th JB Danquah memorial lectures, Prof Akosa opined that such a move will also ensure togetherness and cohesiveness in the governance of the country.
According to him, it is imperative for the presidential candidate of the largest opposition party to head that office because it is unfair for him or her not to have “no other role in that governance of the nation.”
The leader of the office when created is expected to have a different role in the governance of this country.
The onetime CPP flagbearer aspirant suggested that the “position must come up with a home as elegant as elegant as the Australian House and provide a staff strength of between 30 and 40.”
He further elaborated that “there shall be tow institutionalized meetings with the presidency under the authority of the National Development and Planning Commission (NDPC).”
