The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has described as ‘barbaric’ the unwarranted physical attacks on some members of the association.
This comes on the back of attacks on some doctors and other health personnel at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Nkawie District Hospital both in the Ashanti Region.
The attacks follow a controversy surrounding the missing body of a stillborn baby.
The General Secretary of the GMA, Dr. Frank Serebuor told Citi News, such acts of unscrupulous behavior will not be entertained.
According to him, if such attacks continue on its members, “then it means that the safety of the Doctors cannot be guaranteed.”
Dr. Serebuor therefore threatened that if the various hospital administrators do not take steps to ensure the safety of health officials, the GMA “will ask the Doctors to stay at home to safeguard their own lives.”
He also appealed to the personnel of the Ghana Police Service in the region to beef up security while making sure those persons who were arrested in connection to the attacks are prosecuted.
