Election Petition parties to present oral addresses August 7

The Supreme Court has fixed August 7, 2013 as tentative date for counsel for all parties in the Election Petition to be heard orally by way of clarifications and additions in their addresses to the court.

The address is to be made within 30 minutes each.

The tentative date followed suggestions that the 7th August could be declared a holiday to climax the month of Islamic Ramadan.

The court gave the directions when it resumed sitting on the petition Wednesday morning, and said the oral addresses would not be an opportunity for the parties to re-open their cases but would be heavily curtailed to the two areas of clarifications and additions.

Meanwhile the court has also admitted the written address of the National Democratic Congress which was filed Wednesday morning outside the July 30, 2013 deadline set by the court.

All is almost set now for the Supreme Court to deliver its judgement in the petition challenging the legitimacy of President John Dramani Mahama as President of Ghana.
