{"id":99759,"date":"2015-03-16T15:25:31","date_gmt":"2015-03-16T15:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=99759"},"modified":"2015-03-16T15:25:31","modified_gmt":"2015-03-16T15:25:31","slug":"volta-teachers-accuse-ges-of-selective-distribution-of-laptops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/03\/volta-teachers-accuse-ges-of-selective-distribution-of-laptops\/","title":{"rendered":"Volta teachers accuse GES of selective distribution of laptops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some teachers in the Volta region have accused the Volta Regional Directorate of what they described as the selective distribution of the government laptop computers which were to be given as part of the package for an ICT training workshop they attended between 2011 and 2014.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The teachers who besieged the Regional Directorate of Education on Friday said they were turned down although some earlier colleagues were served with the laptops.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The disgruntled teachers after several failed attempts to acquire the devices were left stranded in the regional capital with some loitering and sitting on pavements along the premises of the directorate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/GES-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-99765\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/GES-1.jpg\" alt=\"GES (1)\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;HzL30k4wjk6QwqA4cIu2bpEvN5WRcY5e&#8221;]The teachers also demanded payments of allowances promised them during the training workshop.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They said as part of the packages for the training, a stipend of GH120 was to be paid to each teacher by RLG communications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This according to the teachers, were yet to be received despite an earlier apology sent via text message by their trainers for the delay in payment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile in an interview with citinews the Volta Region ICT Coordinator of Ghana Education Service Mr Bright Dey said the claims by the teachers were unfounded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said the teachers showed gross insubordination to the directorate by coming to the office uninvited.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said the teachers of their own accord left classrooms during school hours to demand for the devices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/GES-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-99767\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/GES-3.jpg\" alt=\"GES (3)\" width=\"533\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He explained that although the laptops were ready for distribution, the directorate had put in place proper mechanism for the exercise to prevent teachers from leaving their classrooms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He admitted that the directorate gave a human face to their earlier cohorts after which the distribution subsequently suspended in view of the inappropriateness of their action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The teachers defied the rules of the service by leaving the classrooms during school hours and coming to the directorate without invitation,&#8221;
