After more than one month of closure, the Tuna Senior High Technical School in the Sawla Tuna Kalba district,\u00a0in the Northern region will re-open on Monday, March 16, 2015.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”Gg5IjG7QwFLqCjmoRCOrkw5Il2qfdKGC”]According to school authorities, the decision to re-open the school is to allow final year students to write their West African Senior School Certificate Examination.<\/p>\n

The school was closed down on the 12th of February 2015, after students demonstrated, because a male teacher allegedly ordered a female student to strip naked for dressing inappropriately.<\/p>\n

The students also destroyed the school bus, took three computers from the computer laboratory and also made away with about 100 mattresses belonging to the school.<\/p>\n

The rioting students justified their action, arguing that, the punishment meted out to their colleague was inhumane.<\/p>\n

After two weeks of work, the committee that was constituted to look into the matter has finished its work.<\/p>\n

The District Chief Executive for Sawla, Alhaji Isaac Dramani Mumuni who received the report of the committee told Accra based Citifm that,<\/p>\n

\u2018The regional director and the district assembly have met and we have decided that the school re-opens on Monday to enable final year students write their final examination.<\/p>\n

He said that nonetheless, students would be surcharged.<\/p>\n

\u2018You know, we looked at the total cost of items damaged in the school and it stood at One hundred and sixty nine thousand Ghana cedis.<\/p>\n

\u2018This amount will be shared amongst the students so each will pay One hundred and twenty two cedis in order to help the school fix some of the damaged items\u2019.<\/p>\n

He stated that each student would be required to pay the money on arrival and also sign a bond, to be of good behaviour.<\/p>\n

Alhaji Isaac Dramani Mumuni urged parents to pay the said amount when report at the institution with wards.<\/p>\n

Commenting on whether the male teacher involved would be sanctioned, Alhaji Dramani said that the committee that was constituted to investigate the matter and also ascertain whether the male teacher really ordered the girl to take off her dress has referred the matter to the District Education Disciplinary committee .<\/p>\n
