There is increased Police presence within the Kpone district in\u00a0the Greater Accra Region days after youth of the area took to the streets to demonstrate against some problems<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”XL7hpoGRCAiS3xl1Kp9lhJ4j18PlSBdN”]The demonstration which turned violent<\/a><\/span><\/strong> at some point some injured after police fired tear gas to disperse the angry crowd who were then threatening to forcibly eject the registrar of the traditional council.<\/p>\n

The youth were also said to have threatened to burn the Asogli Power Plant<\/a><\/strong><\/span> as well.<\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview with Citi News<\/strong> on the situation, Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer ASP Juliana Obeng justified the Police presence saying it is an attempt to maintain peace and calm in the area.<\/p>\n

She said Police personnel have been positioned strategically at various points in the area \u201cincluding the Asogli plant, the Kpone township itself and the Kpone traditional council area.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to be here until we are clear in our minds that security here at Kpone cannot be tempered with,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Though she could not give the total number of protestors that got injured in the violent demonstration, saying \u201cI cannot know the number of civilians that were hurt because we are still putting our figures together\u201d \u00a0ASP Obeng \u00a0noted that about seven Police personnel were injured<\/strong><\/a><\/span> adding that the \u201chave been treated and discharged from the Tema General Hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

“We still have standby men at the Kpone district headquarters and the regional headquarters just in case, which we doubt, an incident or any other incident can rare, its ugly head.”<\/p>\n
