Authorities of the Mion District Assembly in the Northern Region are unhappy about residents\u2019 apathy towards paying their taxes.<\/p>\n
In the direction to increase the assembly\u2019s Internal Revenue Mobilization (IGF), a Taskforce has been established to pursue the agenda.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”biFI2gocIxYSgOV51Zu4X4zyr2JQujvR”]The Mion District Chief Executive, Dan Mankandan at a public sensitization Durbar decried the situation and urged residents to honour their tax obligations.
\nHe warned that the assembly will not hesitate to prosecute indentified defaulters.<\/p>\n
He bemoaned payment of property rates and thus called for attitudinal change.<\/p>\n
According to him, the taskforce collected a total amount of GHC 10,268.00 for the 2014 fiscal year which fell short of the assembly\u2019s revenue mobilization target.<\/p>\n
Dan Mankandan said the assembly was committed to develop the district in line with the Better Ghana Agenda.<\/p>\n
He maintained that residents there should support the assembly in its revenue mobilization drive to improve their socio-economic wellbeing.<\/p>\n
The clergy and traditional rulers in the district pledged their commitment to encourage residents to pay their taxes to enable the assembly provide their basic needs.<\/p>\n
They admitted that effective mobilization was the surest way the assembly could raise enough funds to accomplish its development agenda.<\/p>\n
A representative of the Sang chief Imam, Alhaji Mutawakil Mahama said Islam was totally against tax evasion.<\/p>\n
He reminded Muslims there of their responsibility to regularly pay their taxes as enshrined in the Holy Qur\u2019an.<\/p>\n
The Regent of Sang, Naa Musah Alhassan endorsed the assembly\u2019s move to clump down on tax evaders.<\/p>\n
He asked residents there to assist the assembly provide them with social amenities such as water, electricity, roads, school infrastructure and a decent market.
\nSang the district capital of Mion is a major transit point between Yendi and Tamale.<\/p>\n
