Vlisco Woman of the Month nominee Elizabeth Akua-Nyarko Patterson, founder and Executive Director of the Girls Education Initiative of Ghana (GEIC), hosted a workshop at the University of Ghana Legon campus last\u00a0Saturday.<\/p>\n
The workshop was aimed at educating and inspiring young women to succeed.<\/p>\n
<\/a><\/p>\n Thirteen girls from GEIC joined with university students to listen to a talk by Daphne Lariba Nabila, a prominent lawyer and Executive Director of the Legal Resources Centre (LRC), a human rights and development NGO.<\/p>\n Daphne spoke about the tenants of a successful life, covering everything from the importance of having a vision to the value of confidence and persistence.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Elizabeth also shared her story with the audience, discussing the serious accident that left her physically disabled and suffering from a brain injury.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n She used her experience to show the audience that they, too, could rise above their circumstances regardless of how insurmountable they appear and achieve great success in their field.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Today, Elizabeth focuses on educating girls, especially those with special needs who are often overlooked by the system.<\/p>\n
