The Kpone Traditional Council has withdrawn its entire staff from Kpone following violent demonstration in the area.

The Council said the atmosphere is not conducive for work.

[contextly_sidebar id=”XiYEnRyHjK5j4AZChAPIwOy1xHEABKpj”]The Youth of Kpone on Tuesday demonstrated over what they say is lack of development in the area despite the sale of lands.

They accuse the Council of doing little to improve the lives of the people.

Dozens of demonstrators and several Police men were injured after scores of angry youth destroyed properties in the area and later threatened to burn the Asogli Power plant.

Speaking to Citi News, Registrar at the Kpone Traditional Council Harry Attipoe said staff at the Council fear for their lives.

He said: “Me I have closed the office I have withdrawn my staff, no staff is going there because their being there is not safe.”

Mr Attipoe noted that they would move back to the place “when the situation calms down and I am convinced that the situation is okay, I will send my staff there. This issue of meeting the youth, they come to my office always and I think that they have a very ulterior motive behind this because they come to my office always.”

Meanwhile, the Tema Regional Police Command said it has deployed more men to the Kpone township to maintain law and order.

The Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Juliana Obeng said the Police is also investigating the matter to bring culprits who might have offended the law to book.

“Police presence will be at the area until when the Police decide and agree that there is extreme calm and that security at Kpone and its residents will not be threatened.”

She further added that, Police personnel have been placed at strategic points “at Asogli and the following traditional council and the following township as well. Apart from that we also have adequate men on standby at the Kpone Police District Headquarters and the Tema Regional Command just in case any ugly situation rears its head again.”
