\"ghana_navy\"<\/a>A Naval delegation from the United States of America are currently at the Sekondi Naval base to train the Marine Unit of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Navy on new ways of fighting crime on Ghana\u2019s waters.<\/p>\n

The United States fleet\u2019s Forces Commander, Mark Lederer led the delegation to pay a courtesy call on the paramount chief of the Essikado Traditional area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V at his palace.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, Commander Lederer said there is the need for supervision on Ghana\u2019s waters following the growing trend of traffic in arms and illicit drugs.<\/p>\n

He stated that the training will enable Ghana\u2019s Navy prepare for operations at sea \u201cso basically looking at vessels that may be illegally fishing in either Ghanaian territorial waters or exclusive economic zone\u2026<\/span>They will also learn \u201cdifferent tactics, different procedures\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Nana Kobina Nketsiah V, on his part stressed on the need to increase security on Ghana\u2019s waters after the discovery of oil in the Western Coast of Ghana.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a time I used to say that when you have a property, the first thing you need to do is to secure the property but<\/span> then we had oil in the see<\/span> and it wasn\u2019t secured<\/span> because we didn\u2019t have the military tool to guard the thing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He expressed the hope that the ongoing training will help Ghana secure its waters and protect its assets and people.<\/p>\n
