The people of Kumasi in the Ashanti Regional joined the rest of Ghana on Friday to commemorated the\u00a058th Independence anniversary.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”El7ltqpAzLb7t9dT6heFH15jGeTUmyDL”]This year’s Independence Day celebration with the theme “Building a better and prosperous Ghana through patriotism and national unity” saw members of the security service, pupils from first and second cycle institutions and bodies participate in the anniversary through parades.<\/p>\n
Addressing the parade at the jubilee park today, the acting Ashanti Regional Minister, Eric Opoku pleaded with\u00a0Ghanaians to\u00a0revisit the foundation\u00a0on which Ghana was formed to push the country\u00a0forward.<\/p>\n
“Those of us inheriting the legacy of the founders of this great nation have a huge responsibility to devote ourselves to the forward match and progress of our motherland. Not long ago, Ghanaians would do anything to keep their surroundings clean, provide for themselves basic social amenities through communal labour…today, after deep reflections, we would all come to a conclusion that, the situation is changing as respect and diligence are fast eroding….I believe the time for transformation is now, we need to have a sober reflection and go back to rediscover the public spiritedness of our forbearers,” he said.<\/p>\n
The Minister who has replaced Mr. Samuel Sarpong after he was\u00a0relieved off his post also asked for tolerance between Ghanaians.<\/p>\n
He finally asked people in authority in the region to help calm the people of Ghana down and continue to throw their weight behind the government to solve problems.<\/p>\n
“I would like to appeal to our Chiefs, Imams, Pastors and the leadership of other organized groups to help popularize the clarion call by His Excellency the President for Ghanaians to exercise patience whiles efforts are being made to address the present challenges facing the smooth development of the Ghanaians economy. We must not lose hope but to believe that everything will work again to the benefit of Ghana.”<\/p>\n
