The Director General of Police Human Resource and Administration, COP Patrick Timbilla has been put under house arrest in connection with last week’s Police recruitment scam.

[contextly_sidebar id=”RbKniBzdCXzRdJ1nhaIKm92WqgMGbQus”]He was placed under house arrest after he was implicated by some of the victims of the recruitment fraud.

The special taskforce which was set up to investigate the matter is said to have seen text message evidence and other correspondence between him and the victims.

The special taskforce therefore recommended his interdiction for fear of interfering with the ongoing investigations.

The Police Public Affairs Director, DCOP David Ampah Benin confirmed this to Joy News saying, “he is not supposed to move out from his house because he is likely to interfere in the investigation.”

“The special taskforce presented its interim report which implicated the Commissioner…we have taken this action to enable the investigation team and the special taskforce to have full access to the Commissioner and then for investigations to continue,” he explained.

Explaining the details of the house arrest, DCOP AMpah Benin said: “He is not supposed to appear in public, he must stay in his house, he is not be seen outside because he is a very senior officer and we are conducting this investigation”

There were also reports that some of the fake recruitment letters had COP Timbilla’s name and signature and according to DCOP David Ampah Benin, the signature will be subjected to forensic auditing by the investigation team since Timbilla has denied “that is not his signature.”

Last week, hundreds of men and women arrived at five police training depots for enlistments into the Ghana Police Service but they were turned away after it was discovered that the enlistment was a scam and their recruitment letters were fake.

The Interior Ministry together with the Ghana Police Administration launched investigations into the matter and mounted an intensive search for the culprits.

So far, about 12 persons including two Police officers are in the grips of the Police.
