President John Mahama has charged Africans to strive for economic freedom through research in science and technology.<\/p>\n
According to him, it is not enough for the continent to continue rejoicing over its political freedom when many Africans are living in poverty and squalor.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”hpM9arvOTYjWX4mp5Dd22ViL3kbgek5B”]Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 8th<\/sup> Pan African Congress in Accra, President Mahama asked Africans to “recognize that our economic freedom has not yet translated into tangible security and independence”<\/p>\n He said the situation presents a new phase of our “struggle to create the Africa that we want.”<\/p>\n Mahama therefore advised African leaders to struggle for the kind of economic freedom that \u00a0“ensures prosperity, decency and dignity” to Africans.<\/p>\n The three- day- congress which was attended by former African Union Chairman Thomas Yayi Boni, Prime Minister of Equatorial Guinea Vincete Ehate Tomi and representatives of other African leaders focused on effective ways of building an integrated continent and also pool resources that will inure to the benefit of Africans.<\/p>\n Own your economic destiny\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n This is not the first time President Mahama has asked Africans to fight for their economic independence.<\/p>\n
