Pressure Group, Concerned Citizens of Ghana have announced they will defy a court order by going ahead with their planned protest on Friday – Ghana’s Independence Day.

[contextly_sidebar id=”lGAP7bHZZzX8r89xiwo4iEsDiHWmoIfX”]The Accra Regional Police Command on Monday secured a restraining order from the High Court to stop the Concerned Ghanaians from embarking on their planned demonstration on Independence Day.

The restraining order was secured after the group consistently refused the Police request to postpone the demonstration since most of the security personnel will be deployed to oversee the various independence parades nationwide.

The group is however determined to hit the streets to protest against what they described as the worsening energy crisis and the economic challenges facing the nation.

Speaking to Citi News, the group Coordinator, Goodfellow Offei said the exercise which will take place tomorrow will be a protest and not a demonstration which will not be in contempt of the court order.

“It wouldn’t be a demonstration because there is an injunction on it but we are going to protest come what may…Because of the injunction of the street demonstration, we are not going to do that. We are going to look at another form of protest,” he said.

Mr. Offei told Citi News that the protest will certainly come on “but the form that it will take; we are holding that strategy to ourselves but definitely, tomorrow, Concerned Ghanaians are going to protest.”

According to him, the group is looking at a “very legitimate form of protest tomorrow…so Ghanaians should expect that members of the concerned Ghanaians will protest against this problem that we are facing.”
