{"id":96740,"date":"2015-03-05T13:08:18","date_gmt":"2015-03-05T13:08:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=96740"},"modified":"2015-03-05T13:08:18","modified_gmt":"2015-03-05T13:08:18","slug":"police-recruitment-scam-another-arrested-in-western-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/03\/police-recruitment-scam-another-arrested-in-western-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Police recruitment scam: Another arrested in Western Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Police in the Western Region have have arrested a 47-year-old man for his alleged involvement in the current Police recruitment exercise which turned out to be a scam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The suspect, Amos Kofi Brown, also called Ogyaframa claimed he is a Marketing Manager of Radio Silver, a private radio station in Sekondi.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;L2U1uch2ElEa5bhwQJJkQ7jdk3f5KzQI&#8221;]According to the Police, the suspect managed to dupe the unsuspecting victims of monies totaling about GHC160, 000.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Police explained that the Amos Brown collected GHc 4 ,000.00 from each applicant after issuing them with fake recruitment letters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Police said the suspect said\u00a0so far about 40 people paid the recruitment fee totalling GHC160, 000.00.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Briefing journalists in Sekondi, the Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Isaac Alex Quainoo, revealed that the suspect was arrested on March 3, 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He indicated that on that day, at about 5 pm, personnel of the Regional Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service had information that the suspect was collecting monies from unsuspecting youth in the Metropolis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/recruitment-scam-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-full wp-image-96746 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/recruitment-scam-2.jpg\" alt=\"recruitment scam (2)\" width=\"399\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/recruitment-scam-2.jpg 399w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/recruitment-scam-2-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 399px) 100vw, 399px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Commander noted that Amos Kofi Brown was collecting the monies under the pretext of recruiting the youth into the Ghana Police Service..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He mentioned that the team proceeded to the suspect&#8217;s house at Bakaekyir near Sekondi and arrested him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After a thorough search in his room the Police retrieved 16 photocopies of result slips, 4 Ghana Police appointment letters and prospectus as well as 6 birth certificates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The rest were list of names of alleged victims, one Ghana Commercial Bank pay in slip bearing the name Patrick Eden Timbilla with face value of GHc 11,400 and account number 1181120007220, dated October 21, 2014.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Eleven passport size photographs and brown envelope having the address and account number of Patrick Eden Timbilla were also found,&#8221; The police Regional Boss added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">DCOP Quainoo stressed that the suspect claimed ownership of the items found in his room and mentioned one Baba Alifa residing in the Central region as his accomplice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The suspect also admitted having collected cash in the sum of GHc 4,000.00 from each of the forty people he recruited for the police.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The suspected also alleged that he delivered the total sum of the money to Alifa through vehicles that plied Takoradi and the Central region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The police Commander assured that efforts were underway to apprehend the accomplice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Radio Silver disowns suspect<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Police commander mentioned that even though the suspect claimed to be an employee of Radio Silver, the management of the station had said Kofi Brown did not work with the station.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Police say they are determined to investigate the issue since the suspect still claimed to be the Marketing manager of the radio station and even drives one of the radio station&#8217;s vehicles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How the story unfolded<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of people showed up at some five Police training depots last Saturday for enlistments into the service but <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/03\/01\/fraudsters-direct-scores-to-police-training-camps-for-fake-recruitment\/#sthash.Cu5wLWXD.sqg1amtp.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>turned out to be a scam<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The Police subsequently <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/03\/02\/two-arrested-over-police-recruitment-scam\/#sthash.fwXhumy5.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>arrested one suspect<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and announced that the other suspect, was on the run.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Obrempong Yaw Ampofo\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police in the Western Region have have arrested a 47-year-old man for his alleged involvement in the current Police recruitment exercise which turned out to be a scam.
