{"id":95219,"date":"2015-02-28T12:08:35","date_gmt":"2015-02-28T12:08:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=95219"},"modified":"2015-03-01T15:26:25","modified_gmt":"2015-03-01T15:26:25","slug":"economy-wont-grow-beyond-3-5-depite-imf-deal-economist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/02\/economy-wont-grow-beyond-3-5-depite-imf-deal-economist\/","title":{"rendered":"Economy won\u2019t grow beyond 3.5% despite IMF deal &#8211; Economist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana\u2019s economy will not grow beyond 3.5 percent, in spite of the financial bailout from the International Monetary Fund, (IMF), the \u00a0Dean of Graduate Studies at the Methodist University College Ghana Professor Kodwo Ewusi has said.<\/p>\n<p>The government on Thursday received <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/26\/confirmed-ghana-gets-us940m-in-imf-bailout-deal\/#sthash.nrbpWeEU.dpbs\">$940 million from the IMF to help stabilize the cedi and reduce the fiscal deficit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some analysts have said the money will not be enough to fix the struggling economy.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kodwo Ewusi, the impact of the Fund\u2019s program on the economy will not be immediate.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;bWlfdqdR2ynY2dOtxcRpkbs3o3gX8HDU&#8221;]Prof. Ewusi made these comments at the 48<sup>th<\/sup> J.B Danquah Memorial Lectures.<\/p>\n<p>He said Ghanaians would have to wait at least six months to experience the impact of the IMF bailout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe immediate journey does not look bright. The infrastructural shortcomings remain a blight on Ghana\u2019s business environment. Areas\u00a0 of concern are energy and water My own prediction of 3.5 percent is based on the fact that, if the situation doesn\u2019t change, factories cannot produce as much as they did last year.
