{"id":94985,"date":"2015-02-27T13:56:03","date_gmt":"2015-02-27T13:56:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=94985"},"modified":"2015-02-27T13:56:03","modified_gmt":"2015-02-27T13:56:03","slug":"use-imf-fund-to-resolve-infrastructural-imbalance-economist-to-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/02\/use-imf-fund-to-resolve-infrastructural-imbalance-economist-to-govt\/","title":{"rendered":"Use IMF fund to resolve infrastructural imbalance &#8211; Economist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Economist, Dr. Ebo Turkson is asking government to use the\u00a0$940 million support package from the International Monetary Fund(IMF) to tackle\u00a0\u00a0infrastructural imbalance in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana is expected to<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/26\/confirmed-ghana-gets-us940m-in-imf-bailout-deal\/#sthash.9xJv5Ukj.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong> receive $940 million<\/strong><\/span><\/a> from the IMF to help transform the economy.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;PCcsMYcNHs6jXKnPGRfueAiAaPh0oVjj&#8221;]Speaking to <strong>Citi News,<\/strong> Economist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Dr. Ebo Turkson said the money<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0will help tackle infrastructural imbalance to a &#8220;large extent&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the money is going to be used to build infrastructure so that in the medium term, Ghana is going to be better of then we can make those sacrifices now but if this money is not going to be put into good use like if we have always found from our leaders then I don\u2019t think it is worth,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Energy Consultant, John Peter Amewu believes the impact of the IMF\u2019s bailout will be eroded if the current energy crisis persists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we don\u2019t address the energy problem, the IMF\u2019s input of course will be eroded because energy is a partial interest of any democratic dispensation in terms of growth,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<p>In a related development, the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) says it will welcome the IMF&#8217;s deal with Ghana if only it will lead to macroeconomic stability.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to<strong> Citi News<\/strong> the President of the AGI, James Asare-Adjei \u00a0said:\u00a0&#8220;What we can&#8217;t bear as industrialists is to face myriad of problems and challenges from all quarters and so if the IMF deal will help\u00a0bring macro stability&#8230;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">then we welcome such initiative&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmoline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Economist, Dr. Ebo Turkson is asking government to use the\u00a0$940 million support package from the International Monetary Fund(IMF) to tackle\u00a0\u00a0infrastructural imbalance in the country.
