The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) is angry at Parliament for sidelining them at the State of the Nation Address, which was held on Thursday.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ZO3pCoWVrJKgKbCz2dBjtULjfV7OtKRC”]The party claims they were not invited to grace the occasion adding that their representatives were also prevented from entering the House.

Parliament on Thursday hosted President John Mahama to brief Ghanaians on the State of the Nation.

Various political and non political parties were present at the occasion.

Some of the political parties that attended the occasion include: Flag bearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate, Dr Bawumia, Chairwoman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Samia Nkrumah, General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

Speaking to Citi News, National Secretary of the party, Kofi Asamoah Siaw lamented that the PPP has suffered such embarrassment for too long.

“When our reps went into the Parliament House they were prevented from entering. Upon further enquiries, we were told that the invitations were sent to only parties with representation in Parliament.”

Mr Siaw bemoaned the situation saying “these things keep coming day in day out. The PPP wants to stress that the slogan of party with representation in Parliament is unknown to our constitution. Ghana is not a two party state and will never be as long as we have this constitution in place.”

He further cautioned Parliament and other institutions that use such things against them to desist from it saying, “It is so unfair.”

“So we protest strongly that communication extended to us from the Parliament House and they should try and correct it in subsequent events,” National Secretary of the PPP added.
