{"id":9025,"date":"2014-03-27T11:50:36","date_gmt":"2014-03-27T11:50:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=9025"},"modified":"2014-03-27T11:50:36","modified_gmt":"2014-03-27T11:50:36","slug":"ghana-will-miss-power-production-target-kite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/ghana-will-miss-power-production-target-kite\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana will miss power production target &#8211; KITE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/KITE-LOGO-copy.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9029\" alt=\"KITE LOGO copy\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/KITE-LOGO-copy.gif\" width=\"629\" height=\"294\" \/><\/a>Energy Policy and Research firm, KITE says government will not be able to meet its planned target of producing 5000 mega watts of power by 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana currently produces about 2800 mega watts.<\/p>\n<p>The Energy minister last year indicated that there are lined up projects intended to meet the 5000 mega watts target.<\/p>\n<p>Energy analyst and Executive director at KITE, Ishmael Agyekum tells Citi business news, the plan is totally unachievable looking at the country\u2019s current position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we are around 2,800 mega watts and we need two years to build a new power plant it means we have less than two years to bring about 2,200 mega watts\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it is just politics, they can\u2019t do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Agyekum adds that power cannot be stored and there will not be demand for it in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will not be any demand for that in Ghana so we have to look at the West Africa Power pool and export the power.
