Following the massive public outcry over the erratic\u00a0power supply in the country, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set February 18, 2015 to stage a demonstration over the issue.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”2iQEgQSaRf2crIgLAvVzPeRuvMlYNpxl”]The party claims the demonstration is\u00a0also aimed at expressing their displeasure over the worsening economic situation in the country.<\/p>\n

Leadership of the NPP announced this at a press conference held on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

The party\u2019s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong in addressing the press said despite various calls \u201cthe government continues to show their inability to deal with the energy crisis. We have an energy crisis of monumental proportions with no end in sight despite countless assurance from President Mahama since 2012.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ghana has been battling with power crisis<\/strong><\/a><\/span> for some time now; a situation which has compelled government to order emergency power badges in the country.<\/p>\n

President Mahama has assured, he will do everything within his capacity to salvage the power situation which has bedeviled the nation \u00a0saying he is resolute on his promise.<\/p>\n

Kwabena Agyapong noted that a lot of businesses have collapsed because of the energy crisis adding that \u201cat our health facilities the situation is very precarious.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a responsible political stakeholder, the NPP considers it a national duty to bring the deep suffering of the Ghanaian people and the intolerable state of affairs to the attention of this government which is obviously incompetent, insensitive and uncaring.\u201d<\/p>\n

He however called on disappointed NDC members, civil society organisations,\u00a0 labour unions among others \u201cto join us on February 18 in order to send a clear message to this government that indeed we are dying of their mismanagement of our economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

A group calling itself concerned Ghanaians has also announced that they will embark on a demonstration\u00a0on Independence Day, 6th <\/sup>March<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, over similar issues.<\/p>\n

According to them, \u201cit is both shameful and embarrassing that, in the 21st Century, our pretensions of being taken seriously as an independent country are rendered a joke by the continual failure of ECG to provide a consistent supply of electricity.\u201d<\/p>\n
