Vodafone Ghana Foundation, under its Employee Volunteerism initiative, has partnered Operation Smile, a volunteer-based children\u2019s medical charity, to create awareness about a free surgical procedure for Ghanaians living with cleft lips and palate.<\/p>\n
The 45-minute surgery, which will be conducted by a team of international medical professionals from across the globe, is scheduled for 9\u00a0April 2015 at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Central Region.<\/p>\n
The Foundation, through this initiative, is also encouraging the general public to help identify and register Ghanaians with cleft lips for the free surgery by dialing 0502407860.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the initiative, Nana Yaa Afriyie Ofori-Koree, Foundation and Sustainability Manager at Vodafone Ghana, said:<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople with such defects experience pain eating, speaking, breathing properly and socializing in society, school, church and other social functions. Vodafone Ghana, as a telecommunication giant, is ready to provide access to health solutions that empower Ghanaians of uneven financial strength to be happy, free and in good health.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sharing his experience, one of the volunteers and the project leader, Simone Vaccari, said: “I am excited to be part of this campaign to create awareness for this palate defect which is considered a curse in some communities and eventually affects the self-esteem of people with such conditions. Our objective is to reach and register Ghanaians with this condition for the free operation.”<\/p>\n
Operation Smile, besides providing free surgeries to repair these facial deformities, will provide free accommodation and food for the beneficiaries and a family member during the entire period of the operation<\/p>\n
