A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has defended President John Mahama’s handling of the economy.

He attributed the weakening of the cedi and other economic challenges the country is facing to the effects of the 2012 elections and therefore advised that the President should not be blamed.

He stated that the depreciation of the cedi is a regular occurrence saying, “it happened in Rawlings’ time. The cedi was devalued over a thousand times, Kufuor came on board, he was able to get things moving properly within a short time…unfortunately when he was leaving, the cedi was again nose diving.”

President Mahama has come under severe public criticisms over how his government is dealing with the current economic crisis.

But speaking to Citi News, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said he is optimistic the measures government has put in place will solve the issue.

He explained that the current economic crisis “happens to all governments; not just John Mahama” adding that it is a worry to everyone including the President.”
