Vice-President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, on Thursday, cut sod\u00a0for the commencement of work on the Kpone Independent Power Project (IPP) in the Kpone-Katamanso District.<\/p>\n

The thermal project, which will provide an additional 350 megawatts to augment Ghana\u2019s current power output, is expected to be completed in 2017.<\/p>\n

The project which cost $900 million, is being funded by the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC).<\/p>\n

\"veep<\/a><\/p>\n

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President said the project when completed will provide an additional 10 percent of Ghana\u2019s generation capacity.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the project construction company, Cenpower Generation Ghana, Mr Samuel Nana Brew-Butler, said the Kpone IPP would be the most cost and fuel-efficient thermal power station in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis initiative means that the state will not be burdened with any arduous responsibility of importing fuel for its operations and the plant will not be shut down because of lack of fuel,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
