{"id":83408,"date":"2015-01-18T17:07:58","date_gmt":"2015-01-18T17:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=83408"},"modified":"2015-01-18T17:07:58","modified_gmt":"2015-01-18T17:07:58","slug":"akatsi-drivers-hail-mahamas-intervention-gprtu-cooperative-dispute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/01\/akatsi-drivers-hail-mahamas-intervention-gprtu-cooperative-dispute\/","title":{"rendered":"Akatsi drivers hail Mahama&#8217;s intervention in union dispute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following a <strong>Citi News<\/strong> report on the\u00a0protracted conflict between drivers of Akatsi Cooperative Transport Society and Akatsi Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union (GPRTU), some drivers in Akatsi have hailed President John Mahama for his swift response in resolving the issue.<\/p>\n<p>According to the drivers of Cooperative Transport Society, the protracted conflict between them and GPRTU resulted into several clashes between members of the two unions.<\/p>\n<p>They said: &#8220;Not for the timely intervention of the president of the republic we wouldn\u2019t have known what to do\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;Kxg2oLE4AgLzcLbSicrxGv3XCzbnBdQG&#8221;]The drivers who resumed work a fortnight ago, petitioned the President to probe the activities the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Akatsi South; Samuel Wuadi, who they accused of displaying bias towards GPRTU in handling the case and restricting them from working.<\/p>\n<p>At a the end of the crunch meeting directed by the President, under the auspices of the Volta Regional Minister, it was agreed that the drivers be allowed to ply all roads in the district contrary to an earlier restriction to use\u00a0only some selected routes.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0secretary at\u00a0the union, Lord Sampson Duho, told <strong>Citi News, &#8220;<\/strong>we are grateful\u00a0to the president for being a listening leader\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Minister, Hellen Ntoso, who confirmed the agreement to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0said: \u2018The constitution allows freedom of movement and association thus it wouldn&#8217;t be proper to infringe on the rights of the drivers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She however advised the two transport unions in the Akatsi South District to remain united and obey the rule of law.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: King Norbert Akpablie\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following a Citi News report on the\u00a0protracted conflict between drivers of Akatsi Cooperative Transport Society and Akatsi Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union (GPRTU), some drivers in Akatsi have hailed President John Mahama for his swift response in resolving the issue.
