{"id":8241,"date":"2014-03-24T15:37:57","date_gmt":"2014-03-24T15:37:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=8241"},"modified":"2014-03-24T16:09:18","modified_gmt":"2014-03-24T16:09:18","slug":"parliament-is-secretly-awarding-oil-contracts-ngo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/parliament-is-secretly-awarding-oil-contracts-ngo\/","title":{"rendered":"Parliament secretly awarding oil contracts &#8211; NGO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/parl-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3198\" alt=\"parliament\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/parl-3.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/parl-3.jpg 400w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/parl-3-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>The Africa Center for Energy Policy (ACEP) is accusing Parliament of defying its own Standing Orders for hastily ratifying the contracts with companies seeking to explore the nation\u2019s oil blocks.<\/p>\n<p>ACEP says the contracts are being awarded on the blind side of Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>The accusation follows the decision by Parliament to ratify the petroleum agreement\u00a0between the government of Ghana and five companies for the exploration of oil in the Expanded Shallow Water Tano Block.<\/p>\n<p>According to ACEP, the rush to ratify oil contract and the secrecy in the award of these contracts are attempts at avoiding the scrutiny of these contracts by citizens.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to these accusations however, the Adansi Asokwa Legislator and a ranking member on the Energy Committee of Parliament, K. T. Hammond warned the various non-governmental organizations operating in the country to be \u201cmindful of how they approach the work of Parliament.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He described as \u201ccompletely unfair\u201d, for ACEP \u201cto put into the public domain, matters which are totally false\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hammond question how ACEP came by the information insisting that the allegations are false.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t quite understand what is it that they are talking about and they talking about trying to pass this thing on the blind side of the Ghanaian. We were there and looking after the interest of the Ghanaian so I don\u2019t quite understand.
