{"id":81845,"date":"2015-01-13T12:05:26","date_gmt":"2015-01-13T12:05:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=81845"},"modified":"2015-01-13T12:05:26","modified_gmt":"2015-01-13T12:05:26","slug":"cost-kumasi-airport-bloated-npp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/01\/cost-kumasi-airport-bloated-npp\/","title":{"rendered":"Cost of Kumasi airport rehabilitation bloated &#8211; NPP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is alleging corruption in the recent rehabilitation works at the Kumasi International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>The NPP says the amount government claims to have spent on the rehabilitation works has been bloated.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;XEPFwhwMddStwcNSJfaaCkr3xPZHONoP&#8221;]The 29 million dollar rehabilitation project\u00a0was<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/12\/15\/mahama-to-inaugurate-renovated-kumasi-airport-today\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong> inaugurated by President John Mahama last year<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>to allow planes to take off and land at night.<\/p>\n<p>But speaking to<strong> Citi News,<\/strong> the General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyapong believes the country has been short changed.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that anybody with engineering knowledge will be able to detect that the cost of the project that does not merit the amount of work which was done at the Kumasi airport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened at the Kumasi airport was the rehabilitating the runway and that is the major cost component and then the issue of lightening at runway. That is a small airport and the length of the runway is 1.981 kilometers and it\u2019s less than 2 kilometers. It doesn\u2019t come anywhere close to the figures they are mentioning,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75754\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75754\" style=\"width: 675px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Adjapong.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-75754\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Adjapong.jpg\" alt=\"Kwabena Agyapong \" width=\"675\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Adjapong.jpg 675w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Adjapong-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 675px) 100vw, 675px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75754\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kwabena Agyapong<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mr. Agyapong pointed out that Anglogold Ashanti recently constructed a new airport in Obuasi with more physical infrastructure than that of the Kumasi airport.<\/p>\n<p>That airport, he said would merit the $29 million being quoted as the cost for the Kumasi airport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m beginning to hear $29 million.
