Domestic airlines have announced a number of local flights will either be delayed or cancelled in the coming days as the harmattan weather sets in.<\/p>\n
According to the airlines though their aircrafts are in good shape, they will have to cancel or delay flights for safety reasons due to the poor visibility.<\/p>\n
The harmattan, which is characterized by poor visibility, has forced some domestic airlines to already cancel or delay flights to Tamale where the harmattan is particularly strong.<\/p>\n
On Saturday the 10th of January, 2015 the presidential jet which had the President, President Mahama and his entourage was turned away from landing in Tamale due to the poor visibility.<\/p>\n
Some flights to Kumasi, Sunyani and Takoradi have also been delayed due to the weather.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi Business News Chief Executive Officer of Starbow Airline James Eric Antwi said his outfit is putting adequate measures in place to ensure safe take off and landing during this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes it is good in the morning, the weather forecast that comes in the morning indicates whether or not there would be delays in our flights, therefore passengers would have to wait because it is a safety issue and it is important. Remember that all the airlines fly the same route so if there is a problem its affects all of us. This makes it very difficult because there is no alternative arrangement. The only alternative arrangements is by road and our passengers do understand that they are safer going on the flight so they always wait.\u201dhe said.<\/p>\n
We inform passengers or travelers ahead of time if there is going to be delays in the flights arrangements due to the reports we receive with regards to poor visibility’. He said<\/p>\n
