Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur,\u00a0 has hinted that\u00a0 government intends to build a permanent military base in the disputed area of Alavanyo and Nkonya in the Volta Region.<\/p>\n
He said the base will continue to offer training to the military personnel who would be stationed at the place.<\/p>\n
He expressed the hope that the resources would be found in this year\u2019s budget to begin\u00a0 the construction of\u00a0 permanent structures in the zone.<\/p>\n

In December 2014, there were renewed clashes following gunshots that left one person dead in the area.<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n The violence in the two communities has persisted for years,\u00a0 despite several mediation attempts.<\/p>\n Vice President Amissah-Arthur also announced that\u00a0 government is also working with other prominent chiefs in the area to find a lasting solution to the decade-old conflict over the disputed land.<\/p>\n He said Togbe Dagadu the Eighth,\u00a0 Paramount Chief of Kpando,\u00a0 has offered to initiate a process of consultation and mediation, and expressed the confidence that it would succeed.<\/p>\n
