{"id":79249,"date":"2015-01-05T05:28:15","date_gmt":"2015-01-05T05:28:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=79249"},"modified":"2015-01-04T22:32:55","modified_gmt":"2015-01-04T22:32:55","slug":"occupy-ghana-determined-to-sue-over-10-fuel-price-reduction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/01\/occupy-ghana-determined-to-sue-over-10-fuel-price-reduction\/","title":{"rendered":"Occupy Ghana determined to sue over 10% fuel price reduction  \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pressure group Occupy Ghana has served notice it will still pursue a court action over the current fuel prices despite the 10 percent reduction in prices by the National Petroleum authority (NPA).<\/p>\n<p>The group which is calling for a 50 percent reduction, described the 10 percent reduction by the NPA as inadequate.<\/p>\n<p>They had threatened to go to court if the NPA failed to reduce the prices of fuel in line with the prevailing price of crude oil on the world market.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;cnBaOnaa0iamxSIP4MvPSleeE9hkIYSj&#8221;]However after the reduction, a member of Occupy Ghana, Sydney Casley-Hayford said they would still go to court to seek further clarification in the NPA\u2019s pricing mechanism \u00a0for petroleum products.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Casley Hayford said the group\u2019s decision to head to court is justified<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is merit in going to court on this issue\u2026 Government cannot raise the automatic adjustment formula when it pleases and then not reduce it when it pleases. It has to be across the border and it has to be done in a transparent manner,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis thing has to be done and done properly and it is important for the purposes of good governance.,.. if we don\u2019t see that happening, then we are heading to court,\u201d Casley Haford added.<\/p>\n<p>Government on <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/12\/31\/fuel-prices-down-by-10\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>Wednesday announced a 10 percent reduction<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in\u00a0 fuel prices after<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/12\/30\/npa-must-reduce-fuel-prices-afag\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"> incessant pressure<\/span> <\/a><\/strong>from various political and pressure groups.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said the decision to review fuel prices was to \u201creflect falling prices of petroleum product on the world market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the group has said the explanation by the<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/01\/03\/reasons-for-10-fuel-price-reduction-not-enough-occupy-ghana\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong> NPA for the reduction is not enough.<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It has therefore asked the NPA to publish how it arrived at a ten percent reduction on the petroleum products.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pressure group Occupy Ghana has served notice it will still pursue a court action over the current fuel prices despite the 10 percent reduction in prices by the National Petroleum authority (NPA).
