{"id":77620,"date":"2014-12-27T16:11:49","date_gmt":"2014-12-27T16:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=77620"},"modified":"2014-12-27T16:48:53","modified_gmt":"2014-12-27T16:48:53","slug":"vr-launches-maiden-edition-paragliding-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/12\/vr-launches-maiden-edition-paragliding-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"V\/R launches maiden edition of paragliding festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Volta region joined the Eastern Region in marking the annual paragliding\u00a0festival at Likpe.<\/p>\n<p>The region&#8217;s maiden festival was initiated by\u00a0the community and supported by the former National Security Coordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Larry Gbevlo Lartey.<\/p>\n<p>The developers describe the area as a multi-faceted tourism destination\u00a0which provides an exciting hiking expedition.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/para.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-77621\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/para.jpg\" alt=\"para\" width=\"4000\" height=\"3000\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/para.jpg 4000w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/para-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/para-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 4000px) 100vw, 4000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The field has three take-off\u00a0points and three landing sites unlike the sister field at kwahu which has\u00a0only a landing site and a take-off point.<\/p>\n<p>From the small village of Likpe\u00a0Todome in the Hohoe Municipality, you can walk in about 45 minutes to the\u00a0top of a mountain where six ancestral caves which serve as hideouts for ancestors during wars are situated 20meters beneath.<\/p>\n<p>There is a restaurant\u00a0at the summit of the mountain which gives you a beautiful view of Togo and<br \/>\nGhana along the Akwapim-Togo range. On the same field is the beautiful\u00a0wadjakli and wli water falls which make the area an adventurous and active\u00a0ecotourism site.<\/p>\n<p>Indigenes and visitors who spent their boxing day on the field were very\u00a0excited enjoying the spectacular view and the aerial fun.<\/p>\n<p>The fee\u00a0for a flight which is 200 cedis did not deter many residents from embarking on the journey.<\/p>\n<p>The place was buzzling and booming with music and\u00a0ecstasy that characterise the yuletides.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/festi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-77623\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/festi.jpg\" alt=\"festi\" width=\"533\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/festi.jpg 533w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/festi-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Volta regional minister Hon Helen Ntosu who came visited the site with\u00a0her family could not hide her joy and feeling about the project.<\/p>\n<p>She\u00a0commended the community for the initiative and encouraged other communities\u00a0to emulate the ingenuity by harnessing the tourism potentials in their\u00a0vicinity.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019Tourism attractions are dotted all over the Volta region. However they\u00a0remain either undeveloped or underdeveloped. \u00a0This indeed is a source of\u00a0worry for me as the Regional Minister because tourism could be a major\u00a0source of revenue to our MMDA\u2019s which are mostly cash trapped due to the\u00a0magnitude of their responsibilities. I would urge assemblies in the region\u00a0to seek tourism investment advice which could help identify our tourist sites and repackage them to generate enough revenue.\u2019\u2019 She said.<\/p>\n<p>The former National Security Coordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Larry Gbevlo\u00a0Lartey was certain the project would be the most vibrant in the country and\u00a0the West Africa sub region.<\/p>\n<p>He said in order not conflict with the Kwahu\u00a0Easter paragliding festival, they have allotted the Christmas period for\u00a0their annual festival in Likpe. He however beseeched Ghanaians and visitors\u00a0to take advantage of the beautiful, natural and serene atmosphere at the\u00a0resort for their relaxation and pleasure.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019I don\u2019t normally see this place in isolation. I see this place in\u00a0conjunction with Wli waterfalls and Afadjato. What the ministry and other\u00a0stakeholders need to do is to make a package that capsulate all these; the\u00a0ancestral carves, the paragliding, Wli waterfalls and the Afadjato.
