{"id":7715,"date":"2014-03-21T13:06:35","date_gmt":"2014-03-21T13:06:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=7715"},"modified":"2014-03-21T15:55:24","modified_gmt":"2014-03-21T15:55:24","slug":"i-rejected-the-bmw-gidisu-clarifies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/i-rejected-the-bmw-gidisu-clarifies\/","title":{"rendered":"I rejected the BMW &#8211; Gidisu clarifies"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_7755\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7755\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/qulx50ann3_687487637_867437.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7755\" alt=\"Joe Gidisu\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/qulx50ann3_687487637_867437.jpg\" width=\"230\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7755\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joe Gidisu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Former Roads and Highways Minister, Joe Gidisu has disclosed he wrote to the Chief of Staff to reject the BMW car purchased for him by the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>He said although the purchase of\u00a0the BMW 7 series saloon car was not a misnomer , he rejected it on principle that it was too expensive.<\/p>\n<p>During a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting on Thursday, officials from the Ministry were questioned about a brand new BMW 7 series saloon car which was purchased in 2011 from a GH\u00a2128 million road con\u00adtract sum for the use of the\u00a0 then Minis\u00adter of Roads and Highways, Joe Gidisu.<\/p>\n<p>The then Direc\u00adtor of Contract at Roads and Highways stated that the BMW was purchased for the Minister to enable him to inspect work done on the road in comfort.<\/p>\n<p>But Mr. Gidisu has explained to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> that \u201cwhen the car was brought and upon examining the car, I wrote back to the Chief of Staff at the time on 5th of July, 2011 that looking at the brand of car that was brought\u2026doesn&#8217;t fit my lifestyle so I was giving up the vehicle to the protocol section of the castle so that they will give me a more simplified vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gidisu maintained that he rejected the vehicle because it was costly and under no circumstance did he use it as intended.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed surprise that the issue is being misinterpreted since he did not use the BMW saloon car which is at the center of controversy after the Public Accounts Committee raised the matter on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Giddisu also told <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the re-introduction of the vehicle saga in the media is the work of enemies within the party who did not want his stay at the Ministry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis news was hashed by our own NDC members at that time who perhaps wanted me out of that office and were circulating this\u2026and that even national security had to force to take the car away from me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Roads and Highways Minister, Joe Gidisu has disclosed he wrote to the Chief of Staff to reject the BMW car purchased for him by the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) in 2011.
