A Pro-Vice chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor John Gyapong has charged government to stop appointing politicians to head sensitive national institutions like the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).<\/p>\n
<\/a><\/p>\n Citing the Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress(NDC) Kofi Portuphy and his Vice Chairperson, Anita Desoso who are coordinators of NADMO as examples, the Pro-Vice Chancellor said the appointment of these politicians instead of experts does not augur well for Ghana’s development.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”daHksfJuaQ6Z1ELF1OCubESnBgRR1zpW”]Speaking at the launch of a book on Environmental Health and Disaster Risk within the Korle Lagoon Complex in Accra John Gyapong said \u201cuntil we[Ghanaians] bring these issues and raise them above partisan politics, we will continue to wallow in the environment that we are wallowing in now.\u201d<\/p>\n The National Coordinator of NADMO, Kofi Portuphy, \u00a0unseated the former National Chairman<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>of the governing\u00a0NDC, Dr. Kwabena Adjei.<\/p>\n He won the position by\u00a02,457 votes, representing about 75% of the total votes cast, compared to the 316 by the incumbent Dr. Kwabena Adjei.<\/p>\n
