The National Coordinator of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), Kobby Acheampong has accused the Minority in Parliament of engaging in “pure partisan politicking” with the GYEEDA bill which is currently before the House.

The Minority MPs are kicking against the passage of the GYEEDA bill in its current state, as government seeks to give legal backing to the operations of the Agency.

According to them, the bill should not be passed until all monies wrongfully paid to individuals and institutions under GYEEDA are retrieved and indicted persons prosecuted.

But the GYEEDA boss said the minority is not in anyway trying to protect the interest of Ghanaians but they are just “fundamentally dishonest.”

“What they are doing is pure partisan politicking; that is all that is going on because the issues they have raised are issues that have never ever been discarded,” he fumed.

[contextly_sidebar id=”DZURn44rj7ulHNXcYTAKmrDjzuvVWpZ0″]Some anti-corruption campaigners are also advocating for the bill to be thrown out and the agency scrapped.

But an angry Acheampong on Eyewitness News on Monday said the Minority MPs are being “hypocritical” because the concerns they are raising over the bill were previously discussed during the joint committee meetings which he was a part of.

“I don’t understand why the Minority thinks that is the position to take when they have sat in the joint committees and have gone through the bill line by line and have come up with a report that has been laid before the House,” he said.

“This is Ghana’s Parliament for heaven’s sake. We need to do things the proper way and be honest with ourselves and stop this fundamental dishonesty that is pervasive in Parliament particularly coming from the Minority,” he fumed.

Mr. Acheampong remarked that it is “completely erroneous” for people to demand that until persons are prosecuted and all monies are retrieved, the GYEEDA bill must not be passed.

“I am completely at a loss why people are adding the collection of monies and all those things to a law that has to be passed for the agency to operate,” he added.
