The Supreme Court has granted an application filed by the Attorney General for extension of time to allow them file their statement of case in the suit against them and the Bank of Ghana for allowing the cedi to depreciate so much this year.

Private legal practitioner, Dr Ephraim Baiden dragged the bank of Ghana to court on accusation that the central bank had failed in its duty to maintain a stable currency which had depreciated in excess of 30 percent this year.

According to Dr Baiden this has resulted in lots of businesses losing millions of cedis hence prayed the court to bring the Bank of Ghana to order.

In court on Monday 15th December, 2014, the Attorney General’s office indicated it has been difficult to reach Dr Baiden through his address making it impossible to serve him with the application and other documents.

Speaking to Citi Business News after proceedings, Dr Ephraim Baiden said the approach the AG is using is unfortunate.

“This matter was filed in March and the Attorney General has never ever entered an appearance or any document, only for them to come to court to ask for an extension of time. This is not in the interest of justice and it is dereliction of duty,” he said.

“I think the Attorney General should be ashamed of herself”, he scornfully added.

Speaking on concerns raised by the Attorney General on Dr Baiden’s address, he said “that is incorrect because the first defendant, that is the Bank of Ghana, they also have not received theirs, so I don’t know how they tried to serve. Because I have always received documents besides the last document.”

According to Dr Baiden “I have always received documents and processes from their bailiff so I don’t buy that, because where we are is a known place. We always receive court documents there.”

The case has been adjourned indefinitely until the Attorney General serves Dr Ephraim Baiden and the Bank of Ghana and appropriate responses replied.
