The Madina Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Yakubu Aggrey on Thursday testified against the former\u00a0Deputy Commander in charge of the Commercial Crimes Unit,\u00a0DSP Gifty Mawuenyaga Tehoda over the missing cocaine saga that rocked the Police administration.<\/p>\n
Chief Superintendent Yakubu Aggrey narrated to the Human Rights division of the Accra High Court that eight Police officers told a disciplinary committee which he chaired that DSP Tehoda occasionally released a cocaine suspect who was on remand.<\/p>\n
He gave the testimony before a Human Right court in Accra presided over by Justice Kofi Essel Mensah when he was led in evidence by a principal State Attorney, Cecil Adadevoh.<\/p>\n
The case was brought against the Ghana Police Service by DSP Tehoda who was dismissed by the service almost four years ago.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”uiywyhH5e7dvFzs7CHEQwETjWCBH3QG5″]The committee according to Chief Supt. Aggrey was set up by the Central Disciplinary Board of the Ghana Police Service to investigate DSP Tehoda on nine charges of misconduct.<\/p>\n
In his evidence before the court on Thursday, Chief Sup. Aggrey told the court that eight junior Police officers at the Commercial Crimes Unit of the service were the only witnesses who appeared before the committee and \u201cthe evidence they gave was on the removal of a remand prisoner from cells without authorization.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also told the court that the only person mandated to give such authorization was the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department.<\/p>\n
According to him, DSP Tehoda refused to testify before a disciplinary committee.<\/p>\n
He explained that DSP Tehoda refused to testify before the committee due to another case brought against her by the state on similar charges preferred against her by the service .<\/p>\n
\u201cI began investigations but they took an entrenched position not to participate in the hearing,\u201d he narrated.<\/p>\n
Chief Supt. Aggrey added that DSP Tehoda also refused to participate in the hearings because according to her, the charges preferred against her by the service were similar to the ones proferred on her by the state.<\/p>\n
He told the court that the committee\u2019s recommendation in its final report to the Central Disciplinary Committee was for DSP Tehoda to be dismissed.<\/p>\n
The case was adjourned to January 8, 2015 to allow counsels for the plaintiff to cross examine Chief Supt. Yakubu Aggrey who is the first prosecution witness.<\/p>\n
