The Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has admitted it has suffered some damage due to the on-going probe into the activities of its Commissioner, Lauretta Vivian Lamptey.<\/p>\n
Deputy Commissioner of CHRAJ, Richard Quayson attributed the situation to the public reaction the exorbitant accommodation expenditure of Ms Lamptey received, some of which he said was based on ignorance.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is only fair to admit that yes, some damage has been done because of the response from the public,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cto some extent, I think that quite a number of people do not even know the issues involved.\u201d<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”vL5lz1Txx4LC2Zu2bDbV7q1c0zAlL3Yb”]After weeks of investigations, the Chief Justice announced that a prima facie case has been established against Ms Lamptey to justify\u00a0full investigations into the complaints against her.<\/p>\n
Two petitions demanding the impeachment of the CHRAJ boss was submitted to the President who in turn forwarded them to the Chief Justice, Georgina Woode for the necessary action to be taken.<\/p>\n
The petitions were submitted following revelations that Ms Lamptey had spent thousands of dollars on rented accommodation, hotel bills and the renovation of her official residence.<\/p>\n
A former CHRAJ boss, Justice Emile Short expressed concerns over the sinking credibility of the Commission<\/strong><\/span><\/a> following the incident.<\/p>\n President John Mahama has also had cause to call on Ghanaians not to run down the institution by labeling it as corrupt.<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, Quayson insisted that regardless of the damage, the Commission is still performing its role.<\/p>\n \u201cThat damage has come but I believe that you have seen what we have done and throughout all the cries over the mistakes of CHRAJ, we have consistently continued to perform,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n He however advise Ghanaians to note that \u201cit is the people in the institution that make the institution so sometimes\u2026because somebody has been alleged to have made a mistake, we should run down the institution or lose confidence in the institution.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
