Contrary to earlier reports that the fugitives were murder suspects, the police said they had rather been held for armed robbery.<\/p>\n
Kofi Kyei Baffour, who together with his accomplice, Yaw Addae, were being detained for armed robbery, escaped from police custody on November 21, 2014.<\/p>\n

The policemen had earlier been given 10 days to produce the fugitives but failed to do so.<\/p>\n
Baffour was, however, rearrested at his hideout at Abuakwa early yesterday morning, together with Sam Boadi, one of his accomplices in another robbery incident.<\/p>\n
Briefing the press, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr Osei Ampofo-Duku, said the police were still looking for the other escapee.<\/p>\n
He said during police investigations, a mobile phone belonging to a robbery victim was retrieved from one Akosua Serwah, 39, who claimed her younger brother, Emmanuel Adusei, had given it to her.<\/p>\n
Mr Ampofo-Duku said the lady was being held for dishonestly receiving, while the police pursued the brother who was currently at large.<\/p>\n
Military men in robbery<\/strong><\/p>\n In a related development, the police have arrested three men suspected to be part of a gang of nine who have been robbing mining sites at Jacobu and Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie area of the Ashanti Region.<\/p>\n The three, who were all dressed in military uniforms, had gone to the mining site at Abrokyire in the Amansie Central.<\/p>\n According to Mr Ampofo-Duku, residents of the ares who had been victims of the robberies fell a tree to block the road but the robbers managed to remove the tree and passed through.<\/p>\n However, when the robbers got to Hiayeya, another town in the district, the people there too mounted a road block, and when the suspects tried to remove it, a confrontation ensued between the residents and the robbers, leading to two people sustaining gunshot and machete wounds.<\/p>\n Mr Ampofo-Duku said the people, however, managed to arrest the three suspects.<\/p>\n They are David Ahiatse, Kwaku Asamoah and Kwadwo Manu.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n
