The National Accreditation Board (NAB) has revoked the accreditation of Meridian University College located at Kasoa in the Central Region.

Students of the institution have since been transferred to the West End University College.

This follows earlier admissions by the authorities of the school that it was unable to operate due to financial challenges.

[contextly_sidebar id=”d7cmbuT3N7ejbGS8VA3oKq4hDE0mZ3BI”]The Executive Secretary of the NAB, Kwame Dattey told Citi News, the decision was necessary to safeguard the education of the students involved.

“They said they were having financial problems. We had the interest of the students at heart…they were transferred West End University College which is also affiliated to the University of Cape Coast,” he explained

According to him, prior to the transfer of the students, a series of meetings took place between NAB and the school authorities.

He disclosed that although authorities of Meridian University College have re-applied for new accreditation, they would have to wait for a period of two years.

“For now, we have to inform the public that it doesn’t exist and if it doesn’t exist, it means accreditation has been revoked so the accreditation is no longer valid,” he stressed.

Mr. Dattey also clarified why the accreditation of the Aim Professional College of Education was also revoked.

He said they were accredited to operate in Ho in the Volta Region but it was later discovered that they were operating on other campuses which had not been accredited.

“A series of warnings had been issued to them but they disobeyed”, hence the revoking of their accreditation.

“You are not given an unlimited license to operate the way you wish. We stick to the rules and regulations and if you don’t the axe will fall,” he said.
